Minister of Agriculture Dr Akinwumi Adesina has welcomed the endorsement of his candidacy for president of the African Development Bank (AFDB) by President-elect General Muhammadu Buhari.
“I am honored by @MBuhari endorsement of my candidacy for President of @AfDB_Group. Together, we can renew Africa,” the minister tweeted via his twitter handle @akin_adesina.
He added: “If I am fortunate enough to lead the #AfDB I would focus on fostering inclusive growth.
Buhari had few days ago communicated his backing of Adesina’s candidacy to the Ghanaian President, John Dramani Mahama, who is the current chairperson of the ECOWAS.
“Dr. Adesina has a proven track record in a career that predates his position as Nigeria’s Minister for Agriculture and Rural Development,” Buhari was quoted as saying in a statement released in Abuja on Tuesday by his campaign council.
